In water polo is played all over the world. The game is particularly popular in Hungary and the former Yugoslavia. Water polo – one of the oldest Olympic sports. The game first appeared in the Olympic program in 1900. In the men's water famous polo Gyarmati won five Olympic medals (gold in 1952, 1956, 1964, silver in 1948, bronze in 1960), setting yet no one beaten the record. Male Athlete of the world championship water polo is played out since 1973, women since 1986. At the same time from each team in the game involved seven people – six field players and goalkeeper.
Guest team performs in the dark hats, home – in white. Goalkeepers wear red caps with the number 1 or 13. Both teams can produce a change in the course of the game. The game consists of four periods. The length of each period in the Olympic water polo – 8 minutes of pure time.
That is, by the time stops when the game stopped. Each team may hold the ball no more than 30 seconds. Each time a team with the ball, trying to score by throwing the ball into the opponent's gate, a stopwatch is reset to zero and the team again given 30 seconds to the ball. Each command can take two two-minute timeout in the regulation time and one timeout in overtime. Time-out can take only team with the ball. Size of the pool for the game are not fixed and may vary from 20 x 10 meters 30 x 20 meters.
